Team Project Progress: Initial Art Direction
Team Project Progress: Initial Art Direction
Entry date: 28 October 2026
SITUATION
The team is establishing the visual direction for our game and preparing an art style that supports the project objectives while remaining suitable for the intended age rating.
TASK
My task was to contribute to the team's early visual development by reviewing character, environment, tile, and boss concepts. I also needed to consider how the art direction could communicate the game's ideas without relying on graphic violence.
ACTION
We explored a more cartoon-style visual direction with simplified shapes, expressive characters, and less direct visual violence. This approach makes the scenes more approachable for a wider audience while still supporting the game's atmosphere and gameplay themes. The attached images show the early team sketches and visual experiments.
RESULT
The early concepts establish a clearer, more all-ages visual direction. Reducing graphic detail helps the project work toward its age-rating goals and gives the team a consistent foundation for future character, environment, and boss designs. These concepts are early drafts and may be refined after team feedback and implementation tests.
This work supports the team objective of creating a coherent and accessible game identity. The next step is to review the concepts as a group and decide which elements should move into the prototype.
